I can only thank you
for a deemed future
that did not happen
stories that came together
but parted ways
like quills dipped in
different inks
etching out characters
that did not connect
or know each other
I found myself
outside inky shadows
in the blazing sun
tired, terrified
but determined
to let a story find me
as its protagonist
and write itself
I watch narratives
struggle to fit in
with multiple talents
thought processes
that promise to blossom
in all seasons
Iād never have been me
If those stories had met
and blended
in grey tones
on yellowed paper
Simply superb, Reena. I’ll ditto what Dorahak says. I love your own unique style.

This is well said with much truth, Reena. I really enjoyed it, especially that excellent close.

I’ve come to recognize a “Reena poem” — your energetic quest for independence, to control the narrative of your life, emblazons its way across the page — and no less in this poem. I love every line, love the extended metaphor of stories on “yellowed paper,” old “grey” stories, when now, in the parting, the loss —
I found myself
outside inky shadows
in the blazing sun
tired, terrified
but determined
to let a story find me
as its protagonist
and write itself
Brilliant writing, and such a pleasure to read, as always, Reena.
