It doesn’t interest me
what you ache for.
The adventure of being alive
is opened by life’s betrayals
the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know
if you can disappoint another to be true to self;
if you can bear accusation of betrayal
but not betray your own soul;
if you can live with failure
yours and mine;
I want to know
what sustains you from the inside,
when all else falls away.
if you can be alone with yourself
in the empty moments.

Knowing what sustains one is good to express to make sure one knows it. That is what one will not betray even if one betrays others to protect it.

Amazing that you have constructed such a wise and cogent poem from someone else’s source. Well done.
