Diversity is a greater need than she had ever thought about.
Ageism is rampant in the corporate world. The HR Head had junked several resumes without seeing them, as they did not qualify on the age criteria. She had never spared a thought to the amount of talent and valuable experience being junked. The target pressures, attrition and cost overruns kept her busy in the day-to-day functioning.
She landed at the bus stop today, after a car break down in the morning. It was peak traffic time, and the fourth bus had just passed by. She was unable to jostle with the crowds, and board the bus.
She looked at the few senior citizens waiting patiently, and suddenly, was struck by the enormity of it all. In a momentary flash, she knew what it meant to have missed the bus.

She missed the bus to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Yes ageism exists in the corporate world. But not all follow the herd mentality and experience is valued by some industries. May their tribe increase. Your story is very relevant to today’s times eap the tech houses retrenching employees.

Indeed, ageism is real. When my husband lost his job to the failed economy, he was suddenly too old. Younger ones were hired, though he had the experience. He had to reinvent himself in a new career.

It’s a bad moment when one thinks the last bus has gone. It’s time brush herself down, and move on. This was a great slice of life

She sure missed the bus when she threw away those elders’ resumes! Great story and I loved the ending!

Especially relevant to me as an older person looking for work.
