rfljenksy - Practicing Simplicity

Resfeber (n.) – Origin: Swedish – Definition: The restless race of the traveler’s heart before the journey begins, when anxiety and anticipation are tangled together.

I have had so many people tell me that I have been a very lucky person.  I have been lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.  I’m lucky that I have a job.  I’m lucky that life has gifted me with so many great things.  I’m so lucky.  LuCk LucKluck!!

This accusation has always confused me. I used to try to argue that point.  The point being that luck did not have much to do with who I was, where I was, or really,  anything in my life.

What we call luck is the inner man externalized. We make things happen to us. – Robertson Davies

I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #130 – Once upon a lifestyle

Once upon a lifestyle ….. by Lady Lee

Ladyleemanila

130

So once upon a lifestyle
Every decade or so it comes
It wriggles in, it comes, it drums

Out of nowhere and it is vile
Out of our seat, up on our feet
As the air, water, land defile

What we’ve done, this is the outcome
So once upon a lifestyle*

* The Octain, full name Octain Refrain, is a form of poetry developed by English poet Luke Prater in December 2010.

It comprises eight lines as two tercets and a couplet, either as octosyllables (counting eight syllables per line), or as iambic tetrameter, whichever is preferable. Trochaic tetrameter also acceptable. The latter yields a more propulsive rhythm, as opposed to iambs, which lilt.

As the name suggests, the first line is a refrain, repeated as the last (some variation of refrain acceptable). Rhyme-scheme as follows –

A-b-b
a-c/c-a
b-A

A = refrain line. c/c refers to…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #129 – Depression

Lady Lee’s take on Depression in response to Exploration Challenge #129

Ladyleemanila

Unbenannt

Trapped in a maze I can’t go back
Alone and wrecked with world so black
Armed with nothing at all but doubt
Crawled on land and with a clout had panic attack

The last time I had depression
And I had a lot of questions
About my future and I saw none
Like I’ve done a hit-and-run, can’t do confession

Out of my hand and without hope
Things around me I cannot cope
Drawing out things from my stash
Chattering and with a rash to the great old globe*

* The Florette, created by Jan Turner, consists of two or more 4-line stanzas.

Rhyme scheme: a,a,b,a
Meter: 8,8,8,12
Fourth line requirement of internal (b) rhyme scheme, on syllable 8.

Like the outgrowing of a small flower, the forth line of each stanza is longer, and enwraps the previous lines. Line #4 requires an internal rhyme scheme that…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #96 – Lost and Found.

Lost and found …. by Michael

Morpethroad

The default position within the family was set on naive. The boy through no fault of his own inherited it.

Blithely he experienced what he leant from the newspaper and the radio news.

His mum shared the romantic stories of her cheap novels, love was something earned, and if you were lucky, it worked out ok.

For twenty years he lived that way, then he met a girl and thought he was in love.

Marriage came, and with it, the expectation of a life shared, of acceptance, of mutual love and care.

Within a week, he was confronted by the stark reality that marriage was not as he imagined. Living with another person had its pitfalls, and he was not prepared; his romantic notion of love and marriage was very soon shattered.

There upon he entered a world of pain, misery and torture, not what he thought he was signing…

Who is normal1? …. by Lady Lee

Ladyleemanila

There was a girl who thought she’s normal
She ambles and lives in a castle
She’s got no friends
Nothing to spend
On her carousel as she joggles*

I think being normal is subjective
What is normal for them might not for me
I could be active and they are passive
I think being normal is subjective
They could be impressive and I’m plaintive
Doesn’t matter just drink a cup of tea
I think being normal is subjective
What is normal for them might not for me**

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 49 – We stopped checking for monsters

Ladyleemanila

We stopped checking for monsters under the bed
When we realised they were inside of us
It’s up to us how to tread
We can’t be blameless

We still believe the power of atoms
Which are held together by electrons
Our source of energy one can say
Surrounding us in every way

The cycle of life in our journey
Children born every minute
People returning back to heaven
Continuation of lines or trees

The changing of the sky each day
Each day different we really can’t tell
One day bright, next day grey
Still mesmerising like a spell

And the humble stone, do we use it
As a stepping stone or throw it to someone?
Do we stand or do we sit, eat or sleep?
And the dust, do we leave it or sweep?

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 16

Taking the challenge … never to be beaten.

Ladyleemanila

I’ve always been different from the rest
Never followed the conventional way
Doing my best, searching for my quest
The rebellious me, that’s how I play

Frustrating sometimes, but no regrets
Alienating people, getting some threats
Things I’ve done, challenges I’ve taken
Until now, I think, never beaten*
