“I wouldn’t pay a fortune for this painting. The artist’s earlier work was much better.”

“He has learnt from experience.”

“Then the quality should have improved……”

“No. He has learnt that the value goes up with the venue of display and stature of visitors.”

“Do I describe him as a dying artist or evolving artist?”

“An evolving businessman.”

when mediocrity is rewarded, artists go astray
not sure of their talent, some of them sway
those who stick to their craft are labelled eccentric
when colors disappear, it all looks grey

not sure of their talent, some of them sway
they learn what sells, forget what dwells
when colors disappear, it all looks grey
they keep counting greenbacks all the way

they learn what sells, forget what dwells
when mediocrity is rewarded, artists go astray
they keep counting greenbacks all the way
those who stick to their craft are labelled eccentric
