Naivete

He is declared the hero once again, the star performer being applauded for his superlative performance in sales. The announcement of a special bonus warms the cockles of his heart. He waddles through the corridors, unable to carry the weight of his pride.

It’s an open secret that his networks are more powerful than the merit of the product. Nothing succeeds like influence, and nothing intoxicates more than victory.

The celebration party is grand. He overhears the mention of profit figures at the bar counter.

Suddenly, he feels deflated. The transaction alert of the bonus credit to his account mocks his naivete. He knows he has been juiced out, while others make inebriated claims.

The tone of conversation here is very different from those in the conference room. No one notices that a dejected, deflated figure has left the party.

  1. Through this story, you’ve painted a vivid picture of the highs and lows of success in the corporate world. You’ve done an excellent job of exploring the theme of influence and the corrupting nature of power. I loved that the party scene is particularly well-written, with the contrast between the celebratory atmosphere and the protagonist’s inner turmoil creating a sense of tension and unease. I must tell you, this is a thought-provoking and well-crafted piece that captures the complexity of human ambition and the price of success. 👍👏👌😊
