“House-house was the most popular game in my childhood.
I had no choice but to play as per preference of my playmates. It was better than isolation.
I was often castigated and rebuked because I showed a marked preference for administrative and going-out tasks rather than cooking, cleaning and laundry.”
“The story has not changed much”, Sandra smiles as she reminisces further about her childhood, “I’m not cut out for household chores. The only change is that I have learnt isolation is better than doing what I don’t like.”
“I know what you mean”, her granddaughter nods her head wisely.
I haven’t dusted in ages. Shhhhh don’t tell anyone. Good balance in this story.

And the best of both worlds, for me, was finding work I loved outside the home that still left time for household chores—most of which I enjoy 🙂

We are who we are, and as long as we find a path that works for us without harming others, we are good as gold!

The only help I have with house chores is three cats. They are not much help at all! 😼

They add to chores ☺️ Thank you, Patricia!

The road to change is a long one but well worth traveling, especially when it comes to gender roles.

Being gender neutral relieves both genders from certain imposed roles.

I wash my clothes, but don’t iron (mum never ironed) My dad learnt to iron in the army.

It’s good to hold your own. I rarely make rotis (Indian bread). Domestic help is engaged to do it.

I like this, Reena. It’s always one person in every family who gets lumbered, isn’t it.

Yes. We take on too much at times, and then are taken for granted.

Yes we sure do. it’s so important to have a family rota and stick with it I think.

I can relate. I’ve been evading domesticity since forever 🤣

Thanks 😀😀 Hope you’ve found someone to share the chores.

There is more to discover and try rather than household servitude. It is clearly a generational thing.

Dear Reena,
I relate well to Sandra. My one domestic quality is that I live in a house. 😉
