Going with the wind

“Sell off this junk. Buy some decent things.” My son is visiting us for Christmas.

“The income from this store took care of your college education. Now my health does not permit running it.”

“I’m a brand new person after college. Renewal is the name of the game. You need to change the scene around here.”

My wife and I looked at each other. Yes, it was time for us to hand it over to the next generation.

“For sure, we’ll be glad to be called a startup founder’s parents. You can shed old baggage of being a shopkeeper’s son.”

  1. It has to hurt the parents just a little bit to have their son reject their tried and true ways; yet it is impossible to ignore that times are changing. I’m glad he’s willing to stay near them in their golden years.
