I pass through a temple every day on my morning walk. The throng of devotees makes me wonder how we believe in certain things without any scientific evidence, visible proof or clear corroboration. In fact, we conduct a lot of research to find supporting evidence.
Do these beliefs create a ground for us to walk on, or a shelter to help us stand straight in stormy times? Uncertainty is debilitating, and we build many structures in self-defense.
I believe in the existence of a superpower which makes things happen. But we invent forms and stories to make it more tangible, more believable. Belief needs imagination, like a roof needs pillars or walls. And imagination is intangible, like God.
when dark clouds gather
skies threaten to fall, I need
a shelter called God
What things? All things?

All things that we don’t do, but they happen. All that you see manifesting in nature and the solar system. All that happens inside molecules and atoms and bodies.

A beautiful write, Reena. I do think that belief and need can blur. The haiku really drives home your thought-provoking prose.
