when every breath is a risk
to contract disease
we mask fear
with vincible drapery
when every thought is a risk
to attract opposition
we mask speech
with tact in vocabulary
when every act is a risk
of launching rebellions
we mask intent
with smooth chicanery
When identity is at risk
of getting lost in battles
we seek authenticity
and chuck jugglery
when core values are at risk
we dig deep within
to find mirrors that reflect
our deepest dream factory…
When poets take risks to say what they mean they throw the dice against pillory. Right now it feels like there is so much at risk. You have encapsulated situation well.
This is so well done! I love the levels of risk you show. Your first one caught me…
…we mask fear with vincible drapery… Such a great image for the past year!
This is incredibly gorgeous in its wisdom and truth 💝💝

So much truth in each stanza! This is why I love poetry and philosophy both, we can examine ourselves and our stubborn ways! 👏👏

But from time to time those masks are riskier than the risk itself.

A lovely write. I particularly enjoyed the last stanza, especially the line: mirrors that reflect our deepest dream factory 🙂

I wonder if we can recognise our true self without the masks or personas we’ve been lugging around.
