“Brain dead” – declares the doctor.
I wonder what continues to live, as I drag myself out of the Intensive Care Unit. On that bed lay a woman who lived in fear of death for a decade. She did not believe in reincarnation or life after death.
The phone vibrates, and I answer it reluctantly.
“Sir, the mystery of the headless body found near the river is deepening, as multiple heads are reported to be seen across the township.” My junior’s voice appears to be trembling.
“What do you mean by that?”
“We don’t see what was reported when we reach the site. A head is invariably seen, but the location and appearance changes. We don’t know if there is only one head or many.”
“I’ve never heard anything more ridiculous than that. Go on leave, and see a doctor.” I disconnect with a growl.
I almost step on this smiling face.
“I told you, I’ll find a different way of being here.”
