“I don’t know how many spirits have stopped by, or lived here in the last few years. It feels criminal to disturb their abode.”
“You cannot build a new structure, without pulling this one down. See what a grand plan I have for our new home, ” he held the architect’s blueprints in his hand – seven bedrooms, a huge library, a studio for my art indulgence were the few incentives to get my approval.
“Sepia tints to Ammonia prints…”
“Is that the title of your new artwork?”
“It could well be. I choose to live in this house, as it is.”
I agree with you. I would stay in the original home. Many years ago there was a house that I wanted so badly that they were tearing down. I was trying to find a way to maybe move it to a piece of property. Due to lack of communication it came down before I got an answer.

Buildings and trees are often sacrificed in the name of development. Call it a process of renewal.

I know if the area that I live they are clearing tons of areas for solar panels. I wonder if they leave enough room for wildlife. I mean that would almost be ideal to keep them safe.

Classic! I enjoyed reading, especially the line, “Sepia tints to Ammonia prints…”
I googled it. 🙂
Well done, Reena.

Thank you 🙂 It is the name I have chosen for a cousins’ Whatsapp group (which commenced with childhood pics), and it just sprung to mind.

A poetic feel to it. It also seems to speak on other levels like loving someone with al their flaws — “as is.” That’s how I saw it, anyway. Great job, Reena! I like this one.

I’m glad she had the courage to go with her convictions – though the library would have tempted me sorely! The Sepia tints / Ammonia prints bit was a nice touch too.

Interesting. House seems to have some history. Both are right though, My opinion.

I lived in a 400-year-old pub, and the maintenance costs were enormous. Would I have replaced it with something new? No way!

It is the history that fascinates more than the house.

Good luck to her. They finally had to rebuild at Cielo Drive (Manson family murder site) and those who died there were 100%+ innocents…

Why destroy something old and lovely only to replace it with something new and cold? Good writing, Reena.

Looks like a heritage structure.
Must be protected & respected. Refurbishing can make it safe to stay.

That seems like a nice title for your artwork. Maybe you could still try to fit in the library?

And in the place where the old house stands, there may once have been a crude shelter, and perhaps before that, a burrow
