“Congratulations on your new position in the organization!”
It seems like a coronation to Rajesh who is elevated, but the expression in his boss’s eyes holds both expectation and consternation.
“The company’s profits and balance-sheet should be the be-all and end-all of your life. You will hold no other value system, other than the one inculcated in you in the last ten years.”
Boss continued after a pause, “You will attain Nirvana when you are able to fire your closest friend without a feeling of guilt, if s/he is no longer useful to the company, or is not a cultural fit.”
Rajesh suddenly feels deflated, as he knows where the arrow is headed, and he will not be able to look in his friend’s eyes ever after.

Bow down before the capitalist alter. Poor Rajesh. Maybe later he will reject this cruel world and find a different calling. Nice six, Reena.

The corporate way, no time for emotion or hurt feelings, just do your job and make us money……or else. Great story, Reena.
