Subdued

He did this in the last stages of his terminal illness.

It is a strong message that somebody will always watch over me. I will never be free, because a woman is not born with the right to do so. The threshold of the house defines her boundary lines, and it is her job to protect a honor she has never seen or known to exist.

The villagers say evil spirits live on the branches of this tree, and stay away from it in the dark. They know the roots lie within the boundaries of this house, but pretend to know nothing.

I know that one day I will climb out of this, into the big, wide and bad world.

Maybe I’m stoned to punish the evil spirit.

Maybe they run away in fear….

Maybe they get to know the real me… not a shadow, not a slave, but a full-fledged human.
