Those who left

In a city this size, every year, hundreds of husbands walk away. Kids leave home. Wives escape. People disappear.

I wish I could blame the government or natural disasters or climate change. But truth lies elsewhere.

What is it that makes relationships so painful?

How does hope wither away?

Why do they think leaving home would give them a better life?

Who pushes them to the brink?

Where do they go?

The last one is the ultimate question to which nobody has an answer as yet.

I walked in search of an answer, and became a philosopher. The writer in me was happy painting scenarios with what I saw around me. But existential questions have brought me to this juncture.

Maybe the people who left are somewhere around – in search of answers just as I am.
