I chose four of the quotes –
“The world will offer itself to you to be unmasked.” from The Zürau Aphorisms
“I usually solve problems by letting them devour me.” from Letters to Friends, Family, and Editors
“Beyond a certain point there is no return. This point has to be reached.” from The Trial
“But what am I supposed to do if this fear, and not my heart, is beating within my body?” from Letters To Milena
sun rides high on a sultry day
‘let’s pull down the curtain’ I say
I see fear in their innocent eyes
it’s not allowed - come what may
Are you kidding, do you really care?
Be a tortoise, and now see the hare
There’s a world beyond - for us to see
If I reach there, I’d love to share…
props and masks, paper flies around
I can’t make sense of what I found
“It will take a lifetime to know….”
I can’t see, but hear foreboding sounds
I grab the ladder, and there I go
My nose hits the floor, how- I don’t know
Who pulled the ground beneath my feet
Lightning struck, maybe I was slow…
Dark is the chimney, but I’m pulled up
A blue sky, a monster, a horse to gallop…
My friends are shrieking, ‘we told you so’
Held back by fear, they missed the Cup
It’s not easy, exciting for sure
I’ll soon know about the furore
Did I grow up a little too soon?
If I’d waited, maybe I knew some more….
“Held back by fear, they missed the Cup”
Fear is grand thief no matter one’s age.

It would be great if children could stay being children at least for a while

They wish to grow up sooner. Ask below-18s their age, and they will say ‘I will be …. years old’. Beyond that, age becomes an embarrassing question.

I like the perspective in this line: “Who pulled the ground beneath my feet”

A curiosity-killed-the-cat type of moral, but mysterious and intriguing is your tale, I wonder just what happened to the one who grew up too soon.

Maybe, he was disillusioned faster.
