“This is the coldest fire that I have ever witnessed.”
“Stop talking in riddles.”
“Well, fire just burns. We label it with nouns such as glow, warmth, heat or destruction.”
“It is the intensity that matters.”
“The intensity links up more to human emotions at that point of time. Of what use is a bonfire with no people around it? It is not only the coldest night, but the loneliest bonfire.”
A cold , lonely fire . Liked it .

Oh, that last line made me gulp. A bonfire without people would be very lonely.

A good point, a fire without someone to be warmed by it, is cold indeed. 🙂

Thank you, Kristian! Burning and warming are two different things.

Shortest philosophical treatise ever, after I think, therefore I am. 😊. Fire–and most natural phenomena– seem to exist for us, only in their relation to us. The egocentricism of human experience.

Lots of truth there, Reena. A lonely bonfire is a cold thing, indeed.

like a tree falling in a forest with no one to hear it so a bonfire with no-one to warm them selves is useless. Brilliant really top stuff

Thank you! Fires are destructive, when people are not harnessing it.

That a fire is only a fire when a human is warmed by it is an interesting take on the nature of reality. It’s also the conundrum that lies at the heart of quantum theory, and it gives physicists sleepless nights!

Are there any, other than metaphorical fires? 🙂

Are there any cold fires? Well, if you define a cold fire as visible “flames” that would not feel hot to human touch, then yes, I think there are. Some chemical reactions would fit that description.

I remember reading something about it. In common parlance, we would just call it a glow – like our mercury lamps.

It must be cold & thus people are huddled inside.
The one outside feels lonely as he has no one by his side…
