Walls

I move memories
to a different wall
where the light is dim
and the colors will fade
without staining my soul

I hang utility
handy tools
to keep me busy
while I create new stuff
to displace the old

I nail Time
but it smiles back
controls my existence
from its enclosure
mocking my freedom

I stare at the clothes
on wire hangers
and remember how good
I looked in those
during my lifetime

  1. I like the structure of this poem, Reena, with a different action at the beginning of each stanza followed by a reflection on the action. I like the idea of moving memories to prevent them fading and nailing time (with little success). The final stanza is pensive – it’s also very familiar. 🙂
