I have rarely come across discerning mindsets in people being hugely popular. Popularity pre-supposes acceptance and an inclusive, unquestioning bent of mind. People feel uncomfortable in the presence of a discerning person, not sure if they, or the goods/services they offer measure up to expectations. It creates uncertainty and insecurity at a later stage.
The capability to see through the words or feigned artistry of people makes them squirm all the more. They do everything in their power to maintain a distance.
