The bride bid farewell to her husband with tearful eyes, and hope in her heart. It will just be a short while before the army Major was allocated family accommodation, and she’d join him there.
She looked at the casket being carried out of the plane. It carried the body of her beloved. He had sacrificed his life to the call of duty. This time around, her eyes were dry, and shock had replaced emotion and longing.
Aeroplanes held no meaning for her thereafter. They represented a flight that never took off. Every journey does not lead to a destination.

A soldier chooses a profession, where this can happen. Premature death is a kind of possibility, if not a deliberate choice. The manner in which it affects near and dear ones is no less traumatic though…
