The shadow of the building gets bigger, as my existence lies scattered on the grass. The brilliant species of Homo Sapiens has not been able to invent a man-made material for construction.
They cannot comprehend my speechlessness, nor empathize with my pain. I am unable to tell them, that it will hit them hard in the gut a few years later. Balance is the key to a harmonious existence, but ….
“Will you stop ranting about the environment on your device, and do some real work? I need your help in clearing the lawn. We need to plant new trees.”
(100 words)
Balance, we so need it. Talk about what is needed and then do what you can do to see it done.

Ha! Well done. I did agree with the beginning. I feel it every time a neighbor cuts down a healthy tree so they can have more sun.

I had a neighbor tear down his trees to put up solar panels and while the solar panels seemed like a good thing, I couldn’t see why tearing the trees down was…especially since they were to the north….but I am a lowly writer. 🙂

I’ve been reading lately about the “Gaia hypothesis” which “proposes that living organisms interact with their inorganic surroundings on Earth to form a synergistic and self-regulating, complex system that helps to maintain and perpetuate the conditions for life on the planet.”
In other words, the whole planet is essentially a purposeful organism. The hypothesis has been discounted for decades, but your tale reminded me of it somewhat.

It depends on how we define life. If matter is considered to be a dense form of energy, a lot can shift in these areas. It remains sci-fi till it directlt touches our lives in some way.
