“How do people change so much, on reaching the top? He has forgotten all old friends and his assurances.”
“His survival is at stake, as he struggles for breath. At high altitudes, oxygen does not enter vascular systems easily.”
“What does that mean?”
“You are not the oxygen he needs up there.”
Clark kind of covered my thoughts on this already. I love that phrase – not the oxygen he needs. Best part of the piece.

Very good point. How often do people profess a desire to have what they do not (currently) have and insist that they would pay any price. (For most) success is lies in a country that neither they nor their friends and family have even visited, much less lived there.

Is it worth it at that price? Food for thought.

Is that why some people forget the ones who helped them reach the top? Something to think about.

The needs have changed, and fresh battles are to be fought. Those who remember don’t really reach the top 🙂
