The book I just finished reading ‘In Other Words’ by Jhumpa Lahiri. The book is about her mental journey in learning Italian, and the efforts to embrace the language as her own. She is an Indian brought up in America, who won the Pulitzer prize for the book, “Interpretation of Maladies”. Her novel “The Namesake” has been adapted into a popular film of the same name.

The last paragraph reveals that the book was originally written in Italian, and translated by someone else.

The sequel that I wish to write

Writers get into the skin of other characters and other languages. The responses of those who watch the transformation, and are unable to relate to the person (writer) they know, provide further dimensions to the journey. The world around me changes in the same proportion that I change, opening up new pathways.
